Green Fingers in Room 14

Now that it is Springtime we have been busy planting in Room 14.
We learned that plants need lots of things to grow. They need air, light, water, warmth and food (from the soil).

First we went out into our lovely school garden to plant some peas.

Every class has their own patch, so we used this map to help us find ours.

We each got to plant our own pea. John helped us (thanks John). We can't wait to care for them and watch them grow.

When we went back inside we each planted another pea seed. This time we planted them in pots so that we can take them home . Hurray.

Finally, we planted some seeds that came all the way from Delhi in India. Scoil Mhuire sent some seeds to Presentation Convent School in Delhi and they sent us back lots of seeds in return.

First class planted Gourd in window boxes. Gourd is a vegetable and when it is grown it looks like this.

We also planted some mustard seeds in our window box. Mustard seeds are where the mustard that we eat comes from. The plants have lovely yellow flowers.

We really hope our seeds from India grow.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig

We had a Céilí in the school hall of Friday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We all wore green, don't we look great?

We all  did some set dancing at the Céilí. We have been practising our dance for weeks. We danced in groups of four and did a great job remembering all the steps. Katie danced a reel by herself. She was fantastic!

St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland. We cut out spiral snakes in class. We added pattern to our snakes using bubble wrap and paint. We painted lollipop sticks to use as tongues.

Drumming Workshop

We had a drumming workshop this week . It was so much fun . We got to try lots of different types of drum. We learned that a drum makes a different type of sound depending on what part of it you hit. We have really good rhythm in Room 14!

The Magic of Music

We have been enjoying The Magic of Music workshops every Wednesday in Room 14. We learned about the different genres of music such as rock, classical, hip-hop and rock n' roll.

We talked about the mood of different pieces of music and responded to this by drawing.

We investigated the tempo of different pieces of music by throwing balloons in the air in time with the music.

We also learned to identify the pitch of music as high, medium or low by playing music games.
